Born and raised in Houston, Texas, Joe Lizcano is an associate attorney at Shepherd Prewett PLLC. He was sworn in as a member of the State Bar of Texas on October 17, 2024, and joined the firm shortly thereafter on October 28, 2024.

Joe graduated from Texas Tech University School of Law in May 2024, where he served as Comment Editor of the Estate Planning & Community Property Law Journal. He also held leadership positions as Pro Bono Chair of the Hispanic Law Students Association and Fundraising Chair of the Immigration Law Association. During law school, Joe received the Distinction Award for Academic Achievement and was a recipient of the L.B. James 1:17 EP & CP Scholarship Endowment Fund.

In addition to his J.D., Joe earned a Master of Science in Sport Management from Texas Tech University and a Bachelor of Science in Sport Management, with a minor in Business and Communications, from Texas A&M University.

Joe gained valuable legal experience through clerkships and internships with the Office of General Counsel for the Texas Tech University System, Bigbee & Curtis, LLP, and the Dallas County Court at Law No. 5. He also served as a qualified student representative in Texas Tech’s Advanced ADR Clinic, where he mediated and co-arbitrated disputes through the Lubbock County Office of Dispute Resolution. His experience spans commercial litigation, professional liability, personal injury, and dispute resolution.

Joe is licensed to practice in all Texas state courts. His published work includes The New Game Plan for Student-Athlete Success in the Name, Image, and Likeness Era: The Individual Student-Athlete Retirement Account, 15 Estate Planning Journal (2023).
