Matthew is an attorney with over 20 years’ experience practicing law in the Houston area, focusing on professional malpractice defense, administrative law, and commercial litigation. Matthew grew up in Houston and graduated from Robert E Lee High School. He obtained his BBA from Texas Tech University before attending South Texas College of Law, where he earned his JD in 1993. He became licensed to practice law in Texas that same year.
After a brief internship at the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, Matthew began his legal career in civil litigation in 1994 at the firm Cruse, Scott, Henderson & Allen, L.L.P. becoming a partner, in 2001. His early focus was on medical and legal malpractice matters, as well as on real estate and commercial litigation. In 2010, the firm changed its name to Shepherd, Scott, Clawater & Houston, L.L.P.
In 2015 Matthew started his own firm with partner Billy Shepherd. At Shepherd Prewett PLLC, Matthew continues to represent physicians, attorneys, real estate agents and brokers, accountants, and other professionals in various types of disputes. This includes helping clients successfully navigate administrative proceedings and regulatory and licensing challenges, as well as resolving contractual disputes amongst businesses and high net worth individuals. Matthew prides himself on being accessible and responsive to his clients throughout the litigation process.
Matthew has tried cases in multiple counties throughout the state of Texas and is licensed in all Texas state courts and federal courts. He is rated “AV Five out of Five Stars,” the highest rating in legal ability and ethical standards, by the Martindale-Hubbell legal rating system.
Matthew, his wife Melinda, and their three daughters attend Chapelwood United Methodist Church. Matthew is also actively involved in the Spring Branch Memorial Sports Association, where he has coached each of his daughters on various soccer teams over the years.
